Under current regulations the DEA can manufacture opiods based on industry demands rather than patient need. New rules announced yesterday that the agency would have to take into consideration the extent of drug diversion efforts and also reach out to federal and state offices about the number of pills that need to be produced. The announcement comes after WV AG Patrick Morrisey announced in March that his office was suing the DEA for making policies that he said did not do enough to limit distribution. The new rules he says, shows the DEA was listening to his concerns.
