The National Weather Service reports that the area has seen over ten inches of precipitation this year compared to last year, and that has had a negative effect on our roadways with rock slides and slope failures.
Just yesterday, a falling rock hit a car and limited traffic to one lane on Route 7 near the County Road 44 Exit in Jefferson County.
The left lane had to be shut down while the car was towed. No one was injured and the lane was reopened a short time later.
Also, a portion of U.S. 250 near Bridgeport is closed until further notice.
According to the Ohio Department of Transportation’s social media, the road is closed north of Bridgeport between Besson Lane and Beretta Drive due to a slope failure.
The estimated time of the closure is unknown.
The Department of Transportation recommends heading West on Route 519 to Route 9 South to Interstate 70 East to U.S. 40 in Bridgeport then back to U.S. 250
