Highway Patrol troopers were monitoring traffic on I-70 westbound in Belmont County when a driver sped by at a high rate of speed. A trooper tried to pull him over, but the driver fled onto State Route 149 into Flushing.
He left the car and ran before being caught by officers.
It soon became clear why he ran; Christopher Smith of Jacobsburg was under the influence of and in possession of marijuana, and now faces a slew of charges.
This wasn’t his first time in trouble with the law. There was a warrant out for his arrest for failing to appear for driving under suspension.
Smith is being held in the Belmont County Jail.
