Wheeling Police say a man driving a Jeep Liberty in Elm Grove struck a vehicle before driving away from the scene, only to get caught when he had another accident.
Deputy Chief Marty Kimball says the incident happened just after 1:00 yesterday afternoon.
The man reportedly veered off of National Road, demolished a parked car, and then sped away.
According to officials, moments later, the driver smashed into a transformer box, which caught on fire.
Wheeling firefighters were able to get the man out of his Jeep and put out the fire.
Officials took the man to the hospital, where he is being examined.
