After a large part of downtown Steubenville was without water for a week back in January, city officials believe something needs to be done. However, that means water rate increases for Steubenville residents.
Two possible options were discussed at last night’s utility meeting:
Option one would be to take five dollars out of the sanitation fund and put that money into the sewer fund.
The more favorable option is to increase the sewer rate.
The money would go toward making repairs and replacements, something the Environmental Protection Agency requires.
No timeline for the rate increase has been decided just yet.
This committee will meet again Tuesday, June 26 to further discuss a solution.
