A Wellsburg man has been indicted in the murder of a woman on Wheeling Island in Ohio County Court.
Branden Ensminger, 27, has been charged with a felony offense of murder, as well as charges of child neglect, first degree robbery and fraud.
Wheeling Police say that they found the victim, Rayna Vaughan, 21 of Wheeling, covered in blankets on the floor of her South Wabash Street apartment in March. Her face was reportedly swollen, bloody, and bruised.
In another room, police found a two-year-old child crying. The child was unharmed and taken by the Department for Health and Human Resources.
The West Virginia Medical Examiners Officer has ruled her death by blunt force trauma to the head.
Detectives said they found messages from Ensminger on Facebook threatening Vaughn the day before she died.
He admitted to detectives that he did hit Vaughan, causing her to pass out.
