Bishop Michael Bransfield resigned on Saturday. His resignation was announced by Pope Francis at 6 yesterday morning.

Tim Bishop, Spokesperson for the Diocese says Bransfield has been instructed to live outside the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston pending the outcome of the investigation.

Archbishop William Lori is named apostolic administrator of this diocese, while still being the Archbishop of Baltimore.

Tim Bishop said the daily operations of churches, schools and outreach centers will not change.

He said the naming of a new bishop could take anywhere from 48 hours to three years.
