Bellaire Police Chief Dick Flanagan’s hiring of officer Timothy Loehmann to the Bellaire police department has made national news headlines.

The former Cleveland police officer fatally shot 12-year old Tamir Rice in 2014 as he held a pellet gun. A Cuyahoga County grand jury decided not to indict him.

Chief Flanagan said that Loehmann was fired from the Cleveland Police Department, not for Tamir Rice’s death, but for not disclosing that he failed the test for another police department.

Before he begins work for the Bellaire Police department, Loehmann must still complete 16 hours of training and take a test.

Flanagan says his phone is ringing non-stop, but he has assured the community that it’s going to be OK.
