Allegations of discrimination and illegal meetings were acknowledged yesterday at the Jefferson Metropolitan Housing Authority Board.
They admit it did not follow advertising, meeting, or voting procedure for the hiring of Melody McClurg, the new director.
The board denied allegations of discrimination by Gloria Martin. Board Chair Frank Petrella said the board dismissed Martin’s resume out of hand because of complaints of cleanliness in the Kennedy Apartments, for which Martin manages. Despite a history of promotion within, board members say they wanted a new hire with outside perspective.
It’s not clear when the next appointment to the board will be by a judge, mayor, or commissioner. The attorney for the board, Peter Olivito, said he did not know whose term expires next.
