Several fatal incidents have been making headlines in recent weeks as five children were killed and seven injured after accidents near school bus stops, drawing attention to pedestrian safety and distracted driving across the country.

Before these accidents even made headlines, Harrison Hills City Schools had already scheduled a bus accident drill for yesterday.

During the practice drill, Harrison County EMS, the Sheriff’s Department, Cadiz Police and others responded to the planned crash.

Each group practiced securing the area, tending to injuries and gathering information.

Meanwhile, students pretending to have injuries were taken to the hospital. Others were bused back to school.

Officials said Monday’s drill was part of a scheduled training for both county emergency programs and Wheeling Hospital’s Harrison County Hospital.
