Several departments responded to the scene of a house on fire near Valley Grove last night.

The call came in shortly after 6 p.m. for a response to the fire on Blayney Avenue. Traffic on Route 40 was backed up both ways as crews worked to put out the flames.

The family was doing laundry when they noticed smoke in the first floor. The parents and children all made it out safely.
