A new business is coming to downtown Steubenville. There was a lot of pushback when the downtown Rite Aid closed its doors.
Now, Dollar Tree is taking over that spot on 5th Street
According to city officials, Dollar Tree was issued a building permit for the site this week. The company is putting more than $200,000 into the building before it opens to the public.
After Walgreens took ownership of Rite Aid earlier this year, it was announced the downtown pharmacy and store would close.
City leaders and the 5,000 residents who live and work in downtown were disappointed with the loss.
While the Dollar Tree will be extremely beneficial for the community, Steubenville Mayor Jerry Barilla says he still hopes a grocery store or pharmacy will end up downtown.
The Dollar Tree is expected to be open by the end of January.
