Several business and government decisions have been taking place in Weirton.

Weirton City Council is talking about the adoption of the ‘Sunday Brunch Bill’ to allow local restaurants to serve alcohol earlier on Sundays.

The bill would allow Class “A” license holders, otherwise known as businesses that serve food who also have a liquor license to serve alcoholic beverages as early as 10 a.m. on Sundays.

Right now, they cannot legally serve until 1 p.m.

The first reading of the bill will be done at council on Jan. 7, and the adoption of the ordinance would potentially take place Feb. 11.

The city of Weirton also held its finance committee meeting, making some additions to various departments.

The street department was approved to receive a large Volvo vibratory asphalt roller, which should be in use by the spring.

The police department was approved to receive two new vehicles to be used as cruisers. The department replaces one vehicle every 4 years.

The City of Weirton’s municipal election will be held on April 2, and the general election for the office of the mayor and city council will be held on June 11.
