Wheeling has been operating under Home Rule for more than a decade.
It’s a program that allows the city to enact certain ordinances on its own, but it’s in danger of expiring.
Officials are hoping to see a bill pass to make it permanent.
Wheeling was one of four West Virginia cities to be included in the program in 2007. Now there are 34 cities that are a part of it.
If Home Rule doesn’t pass and it expires this summer, it will make things like development in the city a much tougher procedure.
