Crime in the city of Steubenville is down, and despite three homicides in the city this year, eight categories have made improvements.

Steubenville City Manager Jim Mavromatis gave the statistical report at Tuesday evening’s council meeting, and credited more citizens coming forward to report crime and suspicious activity in their area with the overall lower crime rate.

While rapes increased from 6 to 7 and murder from 2 to 3, Mavromatis points out that all three murder suspects have been caught.

Robberies, burglaries, thefts and theft from a motor vehicle are down, other categories that are down are arsons by 6 incidents, assaults by 73 reports, and suspected overdoses by 4.
