A man convicted of rape was in Belmont County Court after winning an appeal to have his plea dropped.
Christianson Hill was sentenced to life in prison in 2018 but is now asking for a new attorney. Hill is being represented by Brent Clyburn.
Hill requested new counsel since he won his appeal that his plea was invalid. According to the 7th District Court of Appeals, Hill’s plea was not knowingly or intelligently entered, therefore his conviction and sentence were withdrawn.
Judge Frank Fregiato overruled Hill’s motion, Clyburn will remain Hill’s defense attorney, but Hill is free to seek his own representation if he chooses.
