Saturday was National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, a day focused on responsible and properly disposing of unused prescription drugs.

Community members were encouraged to drop off the unused drugs at centers around the Ohio Valley, including area Walmart stores who teamed up with local law enforcement.

The Moundsville Walmart has officers from the Moundsville Police Department present. They say they are pleased with the amount of unused drugs, including opioids, they were able to take in.

However, police want to remind residents that there are options throughout the year to dispose of the drugs. Sgt. Richard Milbert of the Moundsville Police Department said a drop box at the dispatch center is open 24 hours, 365 days a year.

According to the CDC, more than 40 people die every day as a result of overdosing on prescription opioids, making the event even more so important.
