When Youth Services System found out there’s around 40 women sleeping outside in Wheeling, officials knew they had to do something.
CEO John Moses says on November 15th, they are going to open our shelter up for women only until December 15th.
December 15th is the normal opening date for the winter freeze shelter.
This comes after the news that the Salvation Army will now only accept men in 3-week increments.
The winter freeze shelter costs about $10,000 per month to run, and this extra month has been funded by an anonymous donation.
But with that extra month of being open comes the need for extra supplies.
They’re looking for blankets, pillows, warm clothing, food and coffee, among other things.
Coming up, YSS will host its biggest fundraiser — the Wheeling Sleep out– next Friday night at the JB Chambers I-470 complex.
