A Jefferson County landfill that has been slapped with EPA violations and millions of dollars of fines could soon have a new owner after an out of state company has expressed their interest in potentially purchasing the property.

Crossridge Landfill, also known as C&D Disposal Technologies, is located off of County Road 26 and is owned by the Scugoza family. The landfill has been closed since 2016.

That company is Greenway Reclamation, LLC, a company based in Garden City, New York.

Mark Nelson of the Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District took to social media against the proposed idea of Greenway purchasing the landfill. An online petition was also created in opposition to the landfill.

The next step for officials at Greenway is to discuss their evaluation of the Crossridge Landfill property before they decide whether or not to move forward with purchasing or applying for permits through the EPA or the department of health.

The Steubenville Board of Health will be voting on approving the process moving forward Tuesday morning at 8:15 at the Towers Building Community Room.
