This holiday season there is a rise in the number of people receiving phone calls from scammers posing as utility companies.

Brett Schmied is a customer service manager for AEP Ohio. Schmied says during winter, around this time, AEP does see an increase in customers claiming that they’re getting a lot of scam calls dealing with electric bills…

Schmied says the scammers have certain targets…

If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and call the authorities and your utility company.
