The city of Weirton is adding a new position after months of in-and-out city managers.

During a finance committee meeting on Wednesday, the position of assistant city manager was approved.

The position will pay between $53,000 and $58,000.

Weirton has seen five top leaders in 2 years, so recently returned city manager Joe DiBartolomeo offered a solution to the reoccurring problem.

Though he isn’t planning on leaving the city any time, soon this will free him up to focus on larger economic development projects.

DiBartolomeo feels as though the position needs an upgrade because the continued movement — and growth in the city.

The advertisement for that position was issued Wednesday, and they hope to have the position filled within the next few weeks.
