Landfills were the big topic at the JB Green Team meeting in Bellaire as the public voiced concerns with both the Crossridge and Apex facilities.
There’s a chance Crossridge landfill could be bought, and residents who live near it say they don’t want it in operation.
Mark Nelson, representing the Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District, presented the board with a plan to deter anyone interested in turning the Crossridge landfill property into another landfill.
His plans include increasing the fees for out-of-district waste and limiting where a landfill is allowed to go regarding an airport, hospital, park, and more.
The JB Green Team says that they do not enforce laws and can only wait until someone applies to purchase the property.
