A man is now facing citations after he left the scene of an accident on New Year’s Eve.

The crash happened on County Road 43 near Hazelwood Drive in Cross Creek Township around 10 p.m.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol Steubenville Post says that 34-year-old James Hawthorne failed to negotiate a turn in his 1999 Dodge Dakota pickup truck. Hawthorne left the roadway, struck rocks, and overturned his truck when he hit a ditch.

Police say that the man then fled from the scene, where they later had to rescue him from a creek bed.

Hawthorne’s wife was in the truck and was uninjured.

He was cited for operating a vehicle under the influence, failure to maintain control and leaving the scene of an accident.
