An accident involving a tractor-trailer forced the closure of Route 2 near the Marshall-Wetzel County Line.

It happened last night when a trailer hauling an unidentified chemical became separated from the truck that was pulling it.

The incident occurred in the southbound travel lanes shortly after the truck was leaving the Covestro Plant. The highly corrosive and toxic chemicals inside the truck spilled onto the roadway and into nearby waterways.

Hazmat crews, including the West Virginia Regional Response Team and Wheeling Fire Dept. all responded and evacuated residents from three nearby homes. A large portion of Route 2 between Moundsville and New Martinsville is closed at this time.
