A child was struck by a vehicle in Colerain yesterday afternoon.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol St. Clairsville Post, the incident happened at approximately 3:30 PM at the intersection of US 250 and Sharon Road where a school bus was travelling on County Road 6 headed towards the busy intersection.
When the bus came to a stop, a 10-year-old fourth grade student from Martins Ferry City Schools got off and went to cross the road heading to her home at the corner. That is when she was struck by a Nissan Xterra SUV.
Police are continuing to investigate, but they say the driver did not pass a stopped school bus and is therefore not facing a citation, however, authorities remind people to be extra cautious around stopped school buses.
