A man accused of assaulting another inmate at the Belmont Correctional Institution last year pled guilty to an amended charge yesterday.

. According to the criminal complaint, on May 28, Steven Toby threw boiling water onto another inmate’s head and face at the prison.

Toby also admitted to punching the victim a couple of times after throwing hot water on him.

The victim suffered severe burns on his face.

A plea agreement was reached, amending Toby’s felonious assault charge to attempted assault, a felony of the third degree.

Toby has been serving a prison sentence from Cuyahoga County for attempted rape, gross sexual imposition and aggravated burglary, which ends in 2021. Toby will be sentenced on Jan. 27.
