A traffic stop concerning a stolen vehicle led to a chase and officer-involved shooting in Monroe and Belmont counties yesterday morning.

The driver of a 2013 Ford Expedition, which was stolen out Meadville, Pa., did not stop and led police on a chase that lasted 19 minutes and reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour on Ohio 7 northbound.

OSHP successfully deployed spike strips, deflating the vehicle’s tires just north of Powhatan.

Eventually, a male passenger, now identified as Joshua Roberts, 41, of Meadville, PA., emerged holding the female driver, Kristen McCoy, at gunpoint.

OSHP Public Information Officer Nathan Dennis says Troopers ordered the suspect to drop his weapon. He did not cooperate and started walking toward the troopers, that’s when officers were forced to shoot at Roberts.

From there, the suspect was then taken into custody, provided treatment, but died at the scene.

The driver, Kristen McCoy, has been treated and released from the hospital. She is now in Belmont County Jail on an active warrant out of PA, and has additional charges pending.
