Brooke County commissioners want to remind residents about their recycling laws.

Commissioners have received a lot of reports that citizens have been taking electronics, like televisions and computers, to the recycling center and dropping them off at all times of the day — and any day of the week.

According to the state of West Virginia, there are only certain times and days where citizens can drop off electronics at the recycling center. Electronic items such as computers, laptops, printers, and flat-screen or LCD TV’s can be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Thursdays at no cost.

If you drop items off any other time, you will be prosecuted for trespassing and charged a litter fine up to $500, even with acceptable items.

If it is an old type of television set, like a CRT television or monitor, there is a charge because the recycling center is charged for that.
