More than two-dozen Democrats in the West Virginia House of Delegates have requested a fast-tracked economic impact study for adult-use cannabis. Commerce Secretary Ed Gaunch said they will consider it.

Members of the House Democratic Caucus are hoping to legalize adult-use cannabis in West Virginia.

Adult-use cannabis would mean the legalization of marijuana for adults in the state, which some WV delegates believe would create a major economic boom in the Northern Panhandle.

House of Delegates Minority Leader Tim Miley says there’s no way to know the economic impact the legalization of marijuana for recreational use would have on West Virginia unless it’s studied.
