Jefferson County Commissioner Tom Gentile made a visit at Tuesday’s Steubenville City Council meeting to discuss the future of the space in which they were gathered.

Currently, council chambers also serve as the municipal court location but that could be changing if the city and county are in agreement.

According to 6th Ward Councilman Bob Villamagna, this has been a consideration for years since the building’s security is not meeting the Ohio Supreme Court’s standard.

If everything pans out, the idea is to move the municipal court to the Jefferson County Justice Center along State Route 7 in Steubenville.

This discussion was only to explore the possibilities– nothing concrete has been decided. Gentile also took the opportunity to propose growing the Jefferson County Port Authority Board.

The County is interested in adding two more seats with one being offered to the city of Toronto. If the city and county are in agreement with these changes to the Port Authority Board, the bi-laws will also need altered.
