The City of St. Clairsville now has a new Chief of Police.
In a special meeting on Thursday evening, the St. Clairsville City Council votes 7-0 to pass an emergency ordinance hiring veteran officer Matthew Arbenz as the chief of police.
He will begin a 60-day probationary term effective immediately.
The decision was made following the move from former acting police Chief Michael Trollous, who stepped down earlier this week.
Troullos will remain with the department as a lieutenant.
As for the future of the department, Chief Arbenz has some community outreach programs up his sleeve, specifically targeting the region’s drug problem.
