A proposal brought to Steubenville City Council back in December was brought before last night’s Parks and Recreation meeting.

Steubenville City Schools would like to either purchase or lease Jim Woods Park, which is currently owned by the city, and make some updates along with some changes.

The district recently had a survey done to ensure all the pieces would fit which, right now, include a brand-new legion baseball facility, the relocation of the soccer field and some upgrades to the softball field.

Some residents at the meeting say they are in favor of adding to student recreation but would like it done at a different location.

Steubenville City Schools superintendent, Melinda Young says that while some changes would be in place if this plan comes to fruition, the park would still be open to the community with an enhanced walking trail, shelters and the splash pad for kids.

Before this proposal is taken any further, there will be public meetings held where community members will be asked to voice their opinions.
