Gary Armitage, the executive director of Senior Services of Belmont County, has announced his retirement.
He says one of his greatest accomplishments was moving into a new building.
After months of planning and construction, the $6.4 million facility opened with an official ribbon cutting ceremony in October 2017.
Services are provided to about 2,000 seniors.
Armitage served as executive director for 5 years, but was helping seniors long before that as a nursing home administrator.
One of the biggest challenges senior services currently face is transportation, especially with fewer hospitals in the county.
Armitage says the future executive director will have to continue to find ways to increase medical transport coverage. Armitage will retire at the end of the year.
No replacement has been named just yet.
