The water bottle company Contigo has announced a new recall over concerns that the bottle’s spout can detach and present a choking hazard.

The company issued the recall Wednesday on 5.7 million Contigo Kids Cleanable Water Bottles in the U.S., on top of an additional 157,000 in Canada and 28,000 in Mexico. These water bottles had previously been recalled in August, as well.

Affected models of the children’s water bottle include only those with a black base and black spout cover. The recall applies to 13, 14 and 20 ounce bottles and those covered in graphics, solid colors, stainless steel and stainless steel solid colors.

The company has received a total of 427 reports of the spout detaching, including 27 spouts that have been found in children’s mouths.

The products were sold at Costco, Walmart, Target and other stores nationwide, as well as online at various websites from April 2018 through earlier this month.

Consumers who purchased the bottles should immediately stop using them. They should also immediately stop using the replacement lids that had been provided in the previous recall. Consumers can call Contigo for a free replacement water bottle.
