A vehicle led police on a high-speed chase in Saint Clairsville around 11:00 p.m. Saturday night.

The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop when the driver took off traveling down various back roads and outside of city limits.

During the chase, the officer observed baggies with a white substance being tossed from the window.

The vehicle came to a stop at Maynard Avenue and the suspect, later identified as Randolph Smith, took off on foot before being caught.

The officer was struck during the incident but did not sustain any injuries.

The Belmont County Sheriff’s Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol and Richland Township Police Department also responded.

Several baggies of suspected crack cocaine, suspected heroin, and suspected methamphetamine were located. Smith had an active warrant in Belmont County and no driver’s license.
