Bridgeport schools backing off eminent domain — The Bridgeport School District is taking new steps to figure out if Perkins Field is still usable for athletic events. Last year, the grandstand and concession stand were demolished, but the superintendent said Monday that the school board has started work on a flood study to find out if the soil can support home stand bleachers.
The board had been looking into possibly using eminent domain to build a new stadium on a part of property owned by business John Callarik. Callarik was vehemently against the idea, and many in the community offered him support. Superintendent Brent Ripley sent out a public letter :
