The state of Ohio has declared a state of emergency as the Coronavirus has arrived.

The Belmont County Health Department wants you to be proactive.

Deputy Health Commissioner Rob Sproul said COVID-19 mimics the flu symptoms, including a fever, body aches, cough and shortness of breath.

He says the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions seem to be more vulnerable to the virus and 80 to 85 percent of people will show no signs or symptoms or have very mild symptoms.

Sproul says the virus can be transmitted through the air, or on contaminated surfaces.

He urges everyone to follow common hygiene practices to stop the spread, such as washing your hands and covering your cough.
