Yesterday, Governor Mike DeWine announced that all hospitals in Ohio would temporarily suspend elective procedures in order to maintain the capacity and necessary supplies for the expected increase in COVID-19 patients needed hospitalization.
Working with Governor DeWine, the Ohio Hospital Association has released a statement of the criteria that, if not met, would allow for the postponing of the surgery. The criteria is as follows
-Threat to the patient’s life if surgery or procedure is not performed.
-Threat of permanent dysfunction of an extremity or organ system
-Risk of metastasis or progression of staging
-Risk of rapidly worsening to severe symptoms (time sensitivity)
