A body was discovered in the Ohio River Sunday afternoon.
Marshall County Sheriff Kevin Cecil says a fisherman called 911 around 3 p.m., saying they discovered what they thought was a body.
The fisherman directed officers to an area along the West Virginia shoreline of the Ohio River, just south of the Blue Racer Plant in Proctor.
Sheriff’s deputies recovered the body of a white male, who they say has been in the water for a long period of time.
Sheriff Kevin Cecil says the body was unrecognizable.
He says the body has some identifying features, but they are early on in their investigation and are unable to provide further details.
Authorities say the body is being transported to the state medical examiner’s office where an autopsy will be conducted.
