A small single-engine airplane crashed into a field behind a business off of U.S. 40 in Guernsey County on Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened just after 3 p.m., east of cambridge.

First responders pulled the pilot from the heavily-damaged plane.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the pilot was alive and was flown to OSU Wexner Medical Center in Columbus.

Witnesses said they heard the plane’s engine sputtering, as the pilot circled over the field near before crashing.

The Federal Aviation Administration will be assisting with the investigation.
