Police were led on a high speed chase crossing three counties and two states yesterday afternoon.

The 23-year-old Bridgeport man was arrested on Virginia Street on Wheeling Island after leading officers on a high-speed chase that began in Steubenville.

Police initiated a pursuit at the south end of Steubenville yesterday morning. Officials say that the suspect was wanted for aggravated assault.

The suspect fled from officers, reaching speed of more than 100 MPH on Ohio 7, going south.

Road spikes were put in place on Wheeling Island, which slowed down the vehicle, but didn’t stop the suspect.

After the vehicle became disabled, the suspect fled, jumping off of a bridge and hiding inside of a house.

The suspect was found in the basement of a house on Virginia Street, buried under some insulation.

He was apprehended and then taken to be treated for a leg injury.
