COVID-19 vaccinations are something West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice continues to push and what local health departments are prepping for.

Ohio County is still in phases 1A and 1B of the COVID-19 vaccine distribution, but Howard Gamble, administrator at the Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department, said phases 1C and 1D will begin in the near future as physical doses arrive this week.

Essential workers, health care personnel and those with high risk medical conditions are just a few who fall into categories under phases 1A-1D.

And those specific individuals will continue to be vaccinated as the department preps for a new category – phase 2.

Justice continues to push vaccines across the Mountain State, leaving some confused or scared. But Gamble says to call your medical provider and ask them what their opinion is about getting the vaccine. They may be able to give additional information specific to your situation.

If you’re still on the fence after talking to your provider, call the county health department in which you reside.

Gamble says if you’re still unsure about the vaccine after that, there’s no harm in waiting. Gamble explains that many of the calls the health department is receiving are from those 65 years or older.
