The Rite Aid store in downtown Steubenville will soon close its doors. Company representatives said this is due to Walgreens taking ownership of the store this year.

Prescriptions will be transferred to the Walgreens location on Sunset Boulevard while the Fifth Street Rite Aid’s pharmacy will close August 23.

The store will close soon after, though no official date has been given.

Walgreens said it intends to find positions for the Rite Aid employees at other Walgreens stores.

Mayor Jerry Barilla said it’s a blow to the downtown area, but it’s out of the city’s hands.
