A house fire in Weirton claimed the lives of three people early Sunday morning. The fire started around 3:30 a.m. on Paul Avenue.

Fire Chief Jerry Shumate says three people living in the home died in the fire. Their names are not being released at this time. Shumate says one of the victims tried to escape through a second-story window, but all three people died due to heat or smoke-related injuries.

Officials say they did not hear or see any smoke detectors or fire alarms in the home. The fire is still under investigation.
