A seven-year-old Belmont County boy is safe at home now after allegedly being abducted by a non-custodial parent over the weekend.

Shadyside Police said the boy, who lives with his father in Jacobsburg, was spending Friday night in Shadyside at the home of his half-sister and her parents.

The biological mother of the two children, who does not have custody, was visiting from Arkansas and also stayed at the house where the children were.

Police said in the middle of the night 30-year-old Trista Mae Morris took off for Arkansas, taking her seven-year-old son with her.

Shadyside Police Assistant Chief Jeff Loeffler said at some point, the biological father had made contact with the biological mother, had talked her into driving back and meeting in Cincinnati, Ohio, where around 3:00 or 3:30 in the afternoon on Saturday they did meet up at an Auto Zone in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Police also said the mother handed the boy back to his father, who has custody.

They each drove off, with the mother apparently returning home to Arkansas.

Local authorities said charges will be filed against the mother for attempting to steal the boy.

Police say she does not have custody of any of her children.
