One man was killed in a fire in Jefferson County early yesterday morning around 2 a.m.

It happened along Emmett Way in the Pleasant Hill area, just off State Route 213, where 63-year-old Paul Speaker was killed.

Officials say two people were inside when the fire started — and both managed to escape– but Speaker went back into the home.

Local officials say they called the state fire marshal in to investigate.

They know the fire started in the basement and it was contained there, but the cause of it is still under investigation.
