The Ohio EPA’s draft air permit was the topic of discussion Tuesday night at Shadyside High School.
The evening began with a presentation, followed by a question and answer session and a public hearing.
Many in attendance voiced concerns with the proposed ethane cracker plant in Belmont County.
Others are in support of the plant, due to the jobs it is expected to bring and production of goods.
The EPA shared the facets of the project, like emissions. The plant would emit 544 tons of carbon monoxide, 164 tons of nitrogen oxides, and 396 tons of volatile organic compounds, among other emissions. Despite safety concerns, the EPA says that they would monitor for everyone’s safety.
Public comments can be sent to the EPA until December 11th.
The EPA will hold a public hearing concerning the draft wastewater discharge permit on December 12th at Shadyside High School.
