A few weeks ago, a sinkhole was discovered behind the Jefferson County Jail and was in need of repair.
The original plan was to slip line a smaller pipe inside the larger, 36-inch pipe. However, due to the railroad’s loading standards, the city has been forced to explore other options.
The city still needs to evaluate all possible options, get approval from the EPA and calculate how much the project is going to cost.
What started as a $150,000 repair has quickly skyrocketed to $875,000.
Utility Director, Chuck Murphy says engineers will be coming in tomorrow to further discuss a plan of action.
