One of the hitchhikers involved in a Martins Ferry abduction case learned his sentence yesterday.
Jayden Baker said he wasn’t in the right state of mind and under the influence of cocaine at the time of the incident, but Judge John Vavra saw it entirely different.
Martins Ferry police say Baker and another woman received a ride from two teenagers in November.
The teenagers say they were told to get into the trunk and when it was safe to do so, they escaped using the emergency release button inside.
Vavra told the court Baker concealed his identity to avoid prosecution, claiming to be his own brother.
The Judge sentenced Baker to 10 years for robbery and abduction.
Baker’s co-defendant Tia Benson is awaiting a competency evaluation.
