Wells Township trustees set their tentative 2019 budget at their meeting yesterday.
The Cardinal Plant in Brilliant filed a property tax appeal over a month ago. The plant is a major source of revenue to the township, and with less money, leaders have had to make the following cuts:
The general fund will lose $220,000
$339,000 dollars will come out of the road and bridge fund
$58,000 will come out of the recreation fund
$96,000 will come out of the fire fund
$226,000 will come out of the police department fund
$230,000 will come out of the EMS levy
Joe Matthews, Wells Township’s fiscal officer, said they hope to ease the burden of the cuts by appealing to the state government or the Ohio Department of Taxation.
